Dr. Rand Lewis

Rand holds a Ph.D. in History from the University of Idaho (1990) with an emphasis in Modern Europe. After retiring from the military in 1996 with over 29 years of service, both as an engineer and as a foreign area officer, he returned to Moscow and began teaching History courses at the University of Idaho and at Washington State University, including an upper division course in International Terrorism. In 1998 he was appointed the first associate director of the Martin Institute and in July 2000 was appointed as the first full-time director. Dr. Lewis has published a number of papers and two monographs on right-wing extremism in Europe, was instrumental in developing the Department of State Security Assistance counter-terrorism program, and has extensive experience in international negotiations. He continues to provide consulting services to the military departments and State Department in counter and anti-terrorism, which includes international terrorist organizations, cyber security, and personal security awareness.
