Position: Nuclear Engineering Faculty
Department of Nuclear Engineering ; 4 Faculty positions; Tenure-track; 9-month appointment. These positions will begin in either January or August of 2009.
The Idaho State University Department of Nuclear Engineering has several tenure-track positions at the assistant-professor level. Qualified candidates with strong research records will be considered for associate-professor positions. Exceptional candidates could be considered at the full-professor level.
Candidates in any of the traditional nuclear science and engineering disciplines will be considered. These include but are not limited to: computational reactor physics (particularly Monte-Carlo), thermal hydraulics, all aspects of the nuclear fuel cycle, radiochemistry, fuels and materials, radiation detection and analysis, imaging and medical physics, and nuclear safety.
Idaho State University has excellent collaborative opportunities with the U.S. Department of Energy’s nearby Idaho National Laboratory. In 2005, DOE assigned INL the objective of becoming the premier nuclear energy R & D laboratory in the United States within ten years. This puts the laboratory at the center of U.S. nuclear energy research and creates extraordinary research potential for Idaho State University faculty. This provides many possibilities for joint research efforts, including graduate student support. In addition, ISU has research collaborations with seven other national laboratories, including LANL, SNL, ORNL, PNNL, LLNL, SRNL and Jefferson Lab. Additionally, the Idaho Accelerator Center provides excellent experimental facilities for research, particularly in homeland security and safeguards.

Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications for the position include a Ph.D. in nuclear science or engineering or a related field and a proven record of research publications. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to effectively teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in their discipline. Successful candidates are also expected to establish vigorous research programs to support graduate and undergraduate research. The department offers B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. Salary and start-up funds are competitive.
