In 2005, DOE assigned INL the objective of becoming the premier nuclear energy R & D laboratory in the United States within ten years. This puts the laboratory at the center of U.S. nuclear energy research and creates extraordinary research potential for Idaho State University faculty. This provides many possibilities for joint research efforts, including graduate student support. In addition, ISU has research collaborations with seven other national laboratories, including LANL, SNL, ORNL, PNNL, LLNL, SRNL and Jefferson Lab. Additionally, the Idaho Accelerator Center provides excellent experimental facilities for research, particularly in homeland security and safeguards.
