Position: Director for Development
College of Technology; Non-classified; Full-time; 12-month appointment starting January 2010
The College of Technology
The College of Technology, one of seven colleges on the Idaho State University Campus, offers over 40 programs in some of the fastest growing occupations in the country. Technical certificates, associate, baccalaureate and graduate degree programs are offered in the following areas: electronics/energy, health occupations, business and services, trade and industrial and technical. These areas of study provide programming in high technology and high demand jobs to help students build unlimited career opportunities. Students may also take advantage of specialized workforce training and other support courses in the College.
Responsibilities
The Director for Development works directly with the dean for the College of Technology and is responsible for providing leadership for all development activities in the College; the Director also reports to the Vice President for University Advancement. The Director’s work is focused on major gift fundraising and is responsible for acquiring gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations and government agencies. The Director is responsible for researching, identifying, cultivating, soliciting and receiving major gifts in support of ISU’s mission. The Director corresponds and meets with donors, potential donors, alumni, and friends of the College of Technology. The Director also plans strategies and goals to increase fundraising effectiveness; coordinates College activities with other directors in the University; prepares and analyzes market research to aid in fundraising; develops long-term relationships with potential donors; ensures appropriate recognition of donors; writes donor newsletters; and organizes special events. This position is field oriented and requires travel to geographically defined areas as appropriate to the College to evaluate, solicit, and to provide stewardship for major donors. Attends regular staff meetings for the College and the ISU Foundation.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree. Successful experience in fundraising or in an area of similar responsibility. Two years of budgeting experience. Excellent verbal and written communication abilities. Effective interpersonal/human relations skills. Well developed computer and database management skills. Experience working in a team-based environment.
Preferred Qualifications
3-4 years of development or other fundraising experience in major gifts or annual fundraising preferably in higher education. Documented history of fundraising successes and knowledge of research methods for targeting potential funding sources. Supervisory experience.
