Position: Immigration Advisor/Coordinator
International Programs Office; Non-Classified; Full-time; 12-month appointment.
Responsibilities
The incumbent serves as an immigration advisor to international students and support departmental liaisons with immigration paperwork as well as issue, file and monitor immigration documents and applications. Responsible for updating student and scholar records in the federal government SEVIS system using fsaAtlas for batch submissions to the SEVIS database; ensuring the university's continuing compliance with the SEVIS reporting requirements; communicates SEVIS updates to other staff members involved in international student and scholar advising.
Duties include:
- Serve as an advisor, advising and assisting international students and scholars regarding F-1 and J-1 immigration requirements, and prepare appropriate federal documents for work authorization and visa related requests. Advises students and scholars on the U.S. immigration, laws, and regulations that impact their enrollment and continued stay in the United States. Process I-20 and DS 2019 applications for new and continuing international students and ensure applications materials meet the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) requirements. Advise students and scholars how to maintain enrollment status to meet immigration regulations, and assist students and scholars in filing applications with DHS. Verify student enrollment, enters/updates immigration information to student database (FSA ATLAS). Maintains I-20 and DS 2019 forms and documentations used by the International Programs Office to assist students with applications and immigration issues.
- Stay informed of current immigration regulations and requirements and maintains professional knowledge of international regulatory policies affecting the Idaho State University students and community. Functions as the Designated Officer (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for the university's F and J programs.
- Represents the office at various meetings and serve on inter-office committees or teams in collaborative efforts as required. Advise international student organizations. Plans and delivers various workshops throughout the year. Coordinates services to assist new students and scholars upon their arrival to Pocatello and Idaho State University. Assist with coordination of international student and scholar orientation for each semester.
- Tracking students' admission and the whereabouts of former international students. Tracks and report enrollment numbers and all other international student data each semester
- Providing pre-departure briefing for ISU students going abroad on Idaho State University sanctioned programs.
- Assisting with arrangements for Study Abroad, and in the preparation and delivery of cross-cultural programming study abroad opportunities for international students.
- Other duties as assigned, maintains confidentiality as appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree plus 3 years working within an academic setting in the area of international immigration advising.
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated experience recognizing political ramification and/or consequences of situations related to self, and/or institution. Analyzing the impact of actions and situations and to use good judgment in responding and or referring or consulting with others.
- Must be able to function independently, be motivated, and show good judgment in leadership and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to model professional behavior, enlist others in a common vision; provide innovative ideas and facilitate collaboration.
Salary
$35,000 - $40,000; outstanding benefits package.
