Position: Associate Director of Financial Aid (Updated November, 2009)

Idaho State University invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Director of Financial Aid.

The University and Community

Idaho State University, a Carnegie-classified doctoral research institution founded in 1901, educates approximately 13,000 students per year in more than 280 programs. Its seven colleges engage in a broad range of innovative research, teaching, and learning in the natural and physical sciences, humanities, performing and visual arts, education, engineering, business, pharmacy, and technology. Located in the heart of the northern Rockies, ISU is within a few hours' drive of Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, world-class skiing, and numerous fishing, rafting, and mountain biking opportunities.

Responsibilities

The Associate Director of Financial Aid reports to the Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships and has primary responsibility to assist the Director in the overall management, operation, and supervision of the Office as it relates to the administration of the University's student financial aid services, including federal, state, institutional and private sources of grants, work study employment and loans. The Associate Director serves as direct supervisor to all subordinate members of the Office in the absence of the Director and assumes the Director's duties in his/her absence. The Associate Director is the first point of contact for students with complex issues regarding their financial aid package, verification, satisfactory progress, or other concerns.

The successful candidate will have a record that demonstrates progressive leadership and administrative effectiveness in a financial aid program that emphasizes individual attention to students, a high quality service delivery model and robust assessment.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with five years experience in financial aid administration, including program management responsibilities, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required. The successful candidate must be knowledgeable of current state and federal legislation related to the application and distribution of financial aid; work collaboratively with university faculty, staff, and administrators; demonstrate excellent management and supervisory skills; and be of the highest integrity and character. The successful candidate will be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; listen empathetically to students and parents; work independently and complete complex tasks by prescribed deadlines; analyze and interpret policy and procedural guidelines; organize workflow and coordinate activities; and be proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Master's degree is preferred. Preference will be given to candidates that have demonstrated financial aid leadership at a senior level, who are familiar with Banner or other ERP systems, and who are able to examine the impact of various financial aid strategies.

Salary

Salary begins in the mid to high fifties, with additional consideration given to extremely well qualified candidates; outstanding benefits package.
