Position: Electronic Resources Librarian
The Idaho State University Eli M. Oboler Library is seeking an Electronic Resources Librarian. The position is a full time, 12-month appointment, tenure-track faculty position reporting to the Associate University Librarian for Collections and Technical Services and Head of References.

ISU, a comprehensive research-intensive doctoral university, offers a wide range of certificate and degree programs through seven colleges: Arts and Sciences, Business, Education, Engineering, Health Professions, Pharmacy, and Technology. The Eli M. Oboler Library is the central library serving the 14,000 faculty and students of ISU. ISU’s main campus is located in Pocatello, a community of approximately 60,000 nestled in a scenic mountain valley in southeastern Idaho. Pocatello is within a three hour drive of world-class skiing and outdoor recreation areas such as Sun Valley, Jackson Hole, Yellowstone and the Salt Lake City area.
Responsibilities
The position performs primary management of the library’s electronic resources responding to user needs and the library's goals. Leverages experience in each area, (i.e., in electronic resources and in public services) to benefit other areas, as well as the library.
Duties include:
- Performs access, renewal and maintenance duties for the library’s electronic resources, and those duties required to guarantee continuing access to these resources.
- Participates in initial license review for electronic resources. Determines permissible use parameters and makes recommendations on license acceptance.
- Maintains linking capabilities and public use information for electronic resources via the library’s Integrated Library System and/or its Electronic Resources Management System consistent with library policy.
- Maintains the library’s license and documentation file for its electronic resources. Recommends policies and/or procedures for improvement, maintenance, etc.
- Works collaboratively with library systems department staff to establish and maintain access to electronic resources by all authorized means, including by proxy server.
- Manages resource trials and maintains statistical data related to the use of the library’s electronic resources as a part of the selection and evaluation/assessment processes.
- Maintains effective relations with the providers of the library's electronic resources.
- Serves as a member of the library's core reference staff, and as such, assumes a reference desk schedule, participates in reference decision-making, and other reference-related tasks.
- Serves as a member of the library’s Database Evaluation and Selection Committee (DESC).
- Under the general coordination of the Associate University Librarian for Collections and Technical Services, serves as a bibliographer to designated academic departments and oversees the selection of materials in assigned subject areas. Assists in collection development and evaluation; monitors pertinent portions of the acquisitions budget; works to develop and maintain good relations with faculty members.
- Under the general coordination of the Head, Reference Department, participates in the library's Instruction program by teaching a minimum of 15 hours per year.
- Performs other responsibilities and duties as assigned by supervisor and the University Librarian.
- Participates in professional activities, including university and library committees and task forces, and attendance at professional meetings.
Minimum Qualifications
Position requires an MLS from an ALA-accredited program Experience in an academic library. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and to work cooperatively with library staff members. Excellent oral and written communication skills are mandatory.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated experience in the management of purchased and/or licensed electronic resources within an academic setting. Familiarity with issues related to the management of these resources, including copyright and intellectual property rights, acquisitions and cataloging principles, and proxy and remote access issues. Experience working with publishers and vendors of electronic resources, with diagnosing access problems, and with a proprietary electronic resources management system. Experience working in public services area in an academic library.
Salary
Commensurate with experience, $38,000; competitive benefits package.
