Position: Early Childhood Teacher (3 positions)
Early Childhood Partnership School, College of Education; Full-time; 9-month appointment starting academic year 2008. This position reports to the Partnership School Director.
Responsibilities
For Children:
- Set up and maintain a safe, attractive, developmentally appropriate classroom environment for children that exemplifies a constructivist approach to learning and that encourages autonomy, creativity and problem solving.
- Work directly as lead teacher with assigned group of children demonstrating the ability to implement age appropriate routines and curriculum.
- Develop and facilitate activities which promote healthy social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development of each child, allowing the child to feel accepted and express feelings.
- Conduct ongoing observation and assessment of children and maintain portfolio work samples and anecdotal records to assess each child's construction of knowledge and overall developmental progress.
- Communicate regularly with parents concerning their children, including children and classroom plans and projects, as well as information concerning ongoing progress of their child.
- Assure that classroom environment, interactions, routines and record keeping are consistent with standards for NAEYC accreditation.
For Staff, Students, and Volunteers:
- Plan and evaluate ongoing classroom program, including activities and child progress with other teachers, school director, and other appropriate personnel on regularly scheduled basis.
- Oversee the activity of staff, students, and other volunteers in the classroom to assure that it is appropriate and consistent with the goals and philosophy of the Partnership School.
- Supervise all staff in the classroom
- Mentor ISU student interns assigned to practicum experiences in the classroom.
- Schedule and maintain records of staff, students, and volunteer participation in the classroom.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education from an accredited college and experience teaching young children and supervising other early childhood professionals.
- Must complete Master's degree in Early Childhood Education, Early Intervention, or closely related field within 2-3 years of hire.
- Must be able to implement a constructivist early childhood program as taught in ISU early childhood education program.
- Must be able to work as a member of a team to facilitate the provision of a developmentally appropriate program for young children with disabilities.
- Must have good written and oral communication skills and be able to communicate, articulate and demonstrate ability to teach and nurture young children with a focus on constructivist theory and teaching approach.
- Must be able to relate well to adults and children and work effectively with a variety of adults in a classroom situation.
- Must have the ability to nurture the professional growth of developing teachers of young children.
- Must have or obtain current city child care license, Red Cross First Aid, and Pediatric CPR certificates on file in Partnership School office.
- Must be available for occasional evening or saturday meetings and activities when scheduled.
- Must be able to follow directions and work independently.
