Long Term Care Insurance

The State of Idaho currently sponsors a voluntary long term care policy (LTC) through Aetna. Aetna announced in October 2006 that they would no longer be selling group long term care insurance. The State will be transitioning its LTC coverage to Prudential Insurance Company effective August 1, 2009. Although Aetna will no longer be marketing group LTC coverage, those currently enrolled in the plan will have the option to continue coverage with Aetna.

Prudential will be sending information to those currently enrolled in the Aetna LTC plan outlining their options. Included will be information on the coverage and rates being offered by Prudential. There will also be a schedule of webinars that Prudential will be hosting regarding the transition in the notification letter. Directions on how to remain with Aetna or transfer to the Prudential plan will be included.

LTC insurance helps pay for a wide range of personal care, health care, and social services for people who can no longer care for themselves. This type of care is not covered under health insurance benefits. LTC insurance benefits provide assistance with normal activities of daily living such as eating, dressing, or bathing if you are disabled or have a chronic illness. It will also provide assistance if you have a serious cognitive disorder such as Alzheimer's disease. It provides a daily benefit to help offset the costs associated with custodial care.
