Students will create their own perfect resume, with the objective of obtaining the job in the chosen opening. Students will be able to identify and produce factors that make a resume effective. Define where the academic area (language) and the PTE area meet Write technical or scientific text, including rsums and cover letters, that includes precise language appropriate for topic and audience. (753.06.c) Demonstrate in writing the correct use of punctuation and capitalization. (753.02.a) Use appropriate technology to produce a final draft. (753.03.b) Assess students awareness Poll students to find out what they already know about resumes (purpose, contents, format, etc.) Discuss why a resume must include perfect grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Work through the embedded example Students take class notes on creating effective resumes and look at a good sample created by a former student. Work through related, contextual & traditional examples Students work in pairs and evaluate three resumes for a production operator position at Micron. Students write the down the positive and negative points of each resume and decide which candidates they would interview based on their resumes. Students demonstrate understanding Students use a real job opening description from the Idaho Commerce and Labor website to create their own resume. They edit and revise their resume until it is perfect and aligned to the job description. They print it on resume paper. Formal assessment Students are given a job description and a poor resume and asked to rewrite the resume to make it effective.
