Learning Communities
What is a Learning Community?
A Learning Community (LC) is a group of students who live in the same area in the halls and share a common interest. Learning communities provide unique opportunities and important academic focus. Learning communities are currently available for honors students, college of technology students, or students interested in business, pharmacy, education, health professions or outdoor learning.
To apply for a learning community, choose a LC on your application when you apply for housing.
Outdoor Learning Community
The Outdoor Learning Community (OLC) will cover the interests of those living in the OLC- including rock climbing, ice climbing, mountaineering, backpacking, hiking, mountain biking, white water kayaking and rafting, kayak touring, outdoor survival, dutch-oven cooking, and more. Basically the OLC is for those that share an interest and passion for the outdoors.
The OLC provides opportunities for outdoor challenges and is committed to valuing the outdoors, outdoor education, human powered recreation, leadership, safety, community, and excellence. Highlights include outdoor trips (hiking, whitewater rafting, rock climbing, mountain biking, skiing, etc.), learning outdoor skills (first aid, minimal impact camping, knot tying, etc.), and living with people who love to play in the outdoors!
Any student who has an interest in the outdoors and human powered recreation may apply for the Outdoor Learning Community.
University Honors Learning Community
The University Honors Learning Community is open to all Honors students. Students will live together in the Rendezvous. The purpose of the Honors LC is to support each other on their academic journey, make friends, and have a great experience living on campus. Students plan, create, and participate in events and activities that include entertaining, educational, and cool events. If this sounds like a great opportunity for you, then select the Honors LC on your Housing Application. Space is limited.
For more information or for questions about the honors program, contact Dr. Peter Vik 208-282-2462
