Applying for Housing
Q-What types of housing do you offer?
A-We offer both residence halls and apartments.
Q-Where can I get residence hall information?
A- Information on residence halls is listed on our Residence Halls information page or you can stop by the office.
Q-How do I apply for campus housing?
A-You may fill out the application online. If you need assistance please contact the Housing office at (208) 282-2120.
Q-What are the requirements to be eligible for student housing?
A-We require all of our students in housing to be taking a minimum of 6 credit hours a semester and be classified as "Degree Seeking" students. Some living environments may have additional requirements.
Q-Are freshman required to live in campus housing?
A-No, but it is highly recommended to help jumpstart a great experience at ISU.
Q-Who is my roommate for this coming school year?
A-You may contact the housing office after July 15th for information about your roommate for the coming school year.
Q-Am I allowed to request a roommate?
A-Yes, however, the request must be made by both you and your requested roommate.
Q-By when should we reserve a room for fall semester?
A-There is no specific date for room reservation. We assign rooms based on the date the application and deposit are received, so applying earlier gives you better odds.
Q-How do I find out my room assignment?
A-You may contact Housing at (208)-282-2120 or by e-mail at reslife@isu.edu.
Q-Can I rent an apartment in June if I am not enrolling until fall?
A-Yes, you can as long as you are pre-registered for at least 6 credit hours in the fall.
About Halls & Apartments
Q-What is provided in my room?
A-Amenities provided for the different halls and apartments are listed on our Cost Information and Halls and Apartments pages.
Q-What size are the beds in the Residence Halls?
A-Nichols Halls- Extra long twin, All other Halls-regular twin.
Q-What appliances can we bring to the Halls?
A-Small refrigerators, Microwaves, Coffee Pots, NO OPEN BURNERS!
Q-Can I connect to the Internet from my room in the Residence Halls?
A-Yes, high-speed wireless internet service is provided in on-campus housing, though you will need an ISU computer account in order to access it.
Q-What is the phone number and or address to my room?
A-You can get this information by contacting the Housing Office at (208)-282-2120 or e-mail at reslife@isu.edu.
Q-Do you allow animals in student housing?
A-The only pets allowed are fish in aquariums no larger than ten gallons. Assistive animals to aid persons with disabilities are allowed, though the resident needs to first complete proper documentation and receive approval for the animal through the ISU ADA & Disability Resource Center. Q-How do you keep your room on campus from one academic year to the next?
A-For the residence halls all you need to do is re-apply during re-application time, which occurs during the spring semester. For apartments the license agreement is valid until a 30-day notice is given to cancel it.
Q-Can I stay in the residence halls over holiday/school breaks?
A-You are allowed to, but there are limited services available due to the fact that school is not in session.
Q-Do you allow temporary or short-term stays for visits?
A-We allow this type of stay through Guest Services for individuals who are associated with the University. Our Guest Services Coordinator can be reached at (208) 282-4080.
Q-How do I receive mail in the residence halls?
A-Residents have an individual mailbox for their room or apartment. Your address format is:
student name, facility name & room or apartment #, 921 S. 8th Ave. Stop####, Pocatello, ID 83209-#### (same as Stop number)
Q-May I bring my rifles, firearms, or other weapons with me?
A-Not to your place of residence, but ISU Public Safety does provide a storage facility for these types of items.
Q-Are there laundry services available in student housing?
A-Yes, there are laundry services available at all on-campus housing.
Q-May I have guests stay with me in my room?
A-Yes, but guest stays must be approved by the Resident Director or Building Manager of the complex where you live.
Q-What are the policies regarding smoking?
A-On-campus residences are smoke free buildings. There is NO smoking in any campus housing complex or within 30 feet of any entrances.
Q-Who may live with me in my apartment?
A-Only spouses, dependents or approved guests.
Q-Do you offer rental services in the residence halls?
A-We do not offer rentals of any kind.
Q-Where do we park our cars?
A-There are parking spaces available at each complex for tenants of that complex. You will need a University parking permit.
Q-What types of accommodations are available for disabled students in housing?
A-We have ADA facilities & services available upon request. Please contact our office at (208) 282-2120 or email reslife@isu.edu for more information.
Costs and Payments
Q-How much do the residence halls and apartments cost?
A-Prices and fees are listed on our Cost Information page.
Q-Do I have to purchase a meal plan with student housing?
A-If you live in the residence halls a meal plan is required, unless you are in your junior year or beyond. A meal plan is not required for residents in the apartments, but can be purchased.
Q-How can I pay housing fees?
A-You can pay housing fees in the Housing Department (Cash or Check) or in the Cashier's Office (Cash, Check, Visa/Mastercard- credit and debit). The Cashier's Office can also take credit and debit card payments by phone at 208-282-2900.
Q-Can I pay for housing online?
A-At this time we do not offer web payment.
Q-When is my rent due?
A-Rent is due by the 1st of each month and is late after the 5th of each month. Late payment fees are $25 per week.
Q-What if I cannot pay my rent on time?
A-You will be charged a $25 late fee for each week your payment is late. Lack of payment, or repeated late payments may result in you being evicted from University Housing. In some cases residence hall residents may be allowed to set up payment arrangements in order to pay monthly. There is a one time charge for this service.
Q-What services are included in my rent payment?
A-Your rent includes all utilities, cable television, local telephone service and wireless internet access.
Q-Will my student loans cover housing?
A-This varies depending on the type and amount of the loan. Contact Financial Services for more information at (208)-282-2756.
Q-Are there scholarships available for student housing?
A-Yes, contact the Scholarship Office at (208)-282-3315 for more information.
Cancellations and Refunds
Q-How do I request my housing refund?
A-If you are owed a refund it can be requested after you have checked out of your residence. Any outstanding University charges will be deducted from the deposit.
Q-How long does it take to get my housing refund?
A-It usually takes from 2-4 weeks to receive your deposit refund, and will often take longer during peak times of the semester. The refund will be a check that is mailed to you from the cashier's office.
Q-How do I cancel my apartment lease?
A-You can cancel your apartment lease by submitting a completed Notice to Vacate form to University Housing at least 30 days prior to when you will leave. Submitting the form less than 30 days before you check out will result in extra charges.
