Name: Shelby Nielsen

Hometown: Aberdeen, Idaho

High School: American Falls High School

Major: Elementary Education

Interests/Hobbies: Riding horses, soccer, boating, and snowboarding

Career Goal:
I would like to become an elementary education teacher and hopefully teach between 1st and 4th grade.  After teaching for a couple years, I hope to further my education pursuing a Masters in Counseling.  After I obtain this degree I hope to get a job as a school counselor.

Why ISU’s Honors Program?
I choose to come to ISU mainly because it was close to home.  I was nervous about the Honors Program, at first, because I didn’t want to take on a larger work load.  I talked to a lot of different people who reassured me that the Honors Program was not more work, but different work.  I then decided to try the Honors Program.

Honors Program Experience:
I have loved being a part of the Honors Program.  The classes that I have taken in the Honors Program are my favorite classes.  It is so nice to be in a small class where you can get one-on-one help from the teacher.  The teachers in the Honors Program really do care about you and strive to help you do the best you can.  Another aspect that I like about the Honors classes is that you know most everyone in them.  With the Honors Program, the first year is spent taking a majority of your classes with the same group of people.  This really helps you get to know people and develop relationships.   The Honors Program also has provided me with many scholarship opportunities that I greatly appreciate. I am so glad that I choose to be a part of such a great organization.
