Mission
The Health Care Administration Program (HCAP) provides quality education and lifelong learning opportunities to future and current healthcare leaders in Idaho. HCAP supports Idaho State University's mission as the center for education of health profesionals in the State of Idaho, and the Kasiska School of Health Profession's mission of enhancing the quality of life of the residents of Idaho. The HCAP serves to advance the knowledge and the ability of healthcare professionals to lead their organizations, to serve their communities and to improve the health status of their communities.
Vision
The Health Care Administration Program will be the premier state-of-the-art education opportunity for the State of Idaho in preparing students for graduate level education and entry or mid-level management positons in ambulatory, acute, long-term care, managed care, group practice,insurance companies and other health-related organizations. The Health Care Administration Program will use innovative instructional methods to deliver high quality and consistent educational outcome reflective of the industry's and constituencies' needs.
Educational Goals, Competencies and Outcomes
HCA students will:
- Develop an in-depth understanding of the healthcare industry
Objectives- Comprehend industry structure, organizations, and reimbursement systems
- Understand population health in terms of societal wellness, disease, and medical care
- Understand the roles of politics, policy, law, regulation, and ethics in today’s healthcare industry
- Develop administrative, technical, problem-solving, conceptual, and human relations knowledge and skills that provide the foundation for future healthcare administrators and leaders.
Objectives:- Demonstrate a mastery of core business skills and techniques
- Demonstrate a mastery of business skills and techniques as applied to healthcare management
- Develop the capacity for problem solving and decision making
- Demonstrate the communication skills, oral, written, and technical, required of healthcare leaders
- Leverage practical educational experiences and interaction among students, alumni, and mentors in the area and the region.
Objectives:- Demonstrate the ability to work in teams, both as leaders and as followers
- Build relationships, work with, and learn with local and regional organizations and professionals
- Maintain an active and meaningful student organization
- Be assured of proper placement and professional development in administrative internships through an appropriate match between the individual and the healthcare organization
- Become well educated, productive citizens
Objectives:- complete ISU goal and general educations courses
- complete a well-rounded curriculum which includes courses in disciplines such as communication, computational skills, social sciences, and life sciences
- choose electives that meet the student’s interests and needs
- increase the awareness of the students of their social and ethical responsibilities in the delivery of health services in their communities
Scholarly Activity Goals
HCA Faculty will:
- Actively engage in research and scholarly activities.

- Present papers, posters, abstracts, or participate on panels at professional meetings and conferences at the local, regional, national, and international levels
- Author books, book chapters, or segments in books
- Edit books, journals, chapters, or segments thereof
- Submit grants to various local, state, national, or international funding sources
Service Goals
HCA Faculty will:
- Actively engage in service to the University, College, and Department
