Support from Idaho Center for Health Research (ICHR)
1. Develop individual research goals for DHS faculty and staff
- Discuss research interests/agenda in individual consultation
- Review CV
- Set specific research goals and steps to reach them
- Identify needed resources and available resources
- Schedule follow up consultation
2. Increase publications
- Identify opportunities for data collection and develop research question(s)
- Consult with statistician to design data collection plan and analyze results
- Discuss research results and publication options
- Edit manuscripts for content, clarity, and/or formatting
- Dedicated writing days with ICHR support (statistics, editing, consultation)
3. Apply for research funding
- Prepare for big, highly competitive grant applications by collecting pilot data, increasing publications, applying for smaller grants, building strong interdisciplinary research teams
- Design pilot studies to collect preliminary data
- Submit grant applications
- Develop research plan through discussions, statistical consultation, and scientific review
- Build interdisciplinary research teams and collaborations
- Facilitate grant team meetings
- Ensure funding opportunity is a good fit for proposed research, and review guidelines for required content, scoring criteria, formatting
- Contact funding agency with questions as needed
- Prepare budgets, budget justifications, and complete budget forms
- Complete application forms, biosketches, and letters of support
- Editorial review for language, clarity, formatting, page limits
- Seek approval for waiver of Governor's Executive Order regarding Affordable Care Act funding, if applicable
- Review, package, and submit proposals to OSP for university approval
- Assist with Human Subjects (IRB) applications
- Assist with initial post-award financial activities
- Review awarded budget and modify if needed
- Apply for new ISU index code
- Work with OSP to start any subcontracts
- Learn how to access grant budget and expenses in BengalWeb and the Argos reporting system
4. Promote DHS expertise
- Liaise with DHS faculty and units for research interests and areas of expertise
- Make DHS areas of expertise available to wide audience for collaboration, consultation, and inclusion in larger discussions
- Quantify research productivity within DHS
- Develop systematic methods to promote DHS research
