Pre-health Professions Education and Advising
Overview
Since 1972, when the Pre-Health Professions Advisory Committee was established, the following are approximate successful admission percentages for Idaho State University applicants to the following health professional schools across the U.S.: dentistry (86 %), medicine (79 %), optometry (86 %), podiatry (100 %), and veterinary medicine (75 %).
Students who plan to enter a health profession have access to a full range of advising services at Idaho State University. A formal pre-health advising system has been in place since the early 1970’s, when the Idaho State University Pre-Health Professions Advisory Committee was formed. Since that time, a full-time pre-health advisor has been added to the Pre-Health Advising Office to enhance that overall advising resource. Additionally, health programs offered by Idaho State University have advisors to assist students preparing to apply for admission to those programs. This advising network has been exceptionally effective.

Science departments at Idaho State University (Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics) have very strong offerings of academic courses typically required for entry into health professional programs. Idaho State University students considering academic programs to prepare themselves for entry into one of these health professional programs should feel confident that their preparation will be excellent.
Other health professional programs offered by Idaho State University are located in various colleges across the campus. Students interested in one of those programs should consult with pre-professional advisors in the appropriate college or department for expert advice regarding pre-professional preparation for admission to those programs.
