Program Description
Name of program: Deaf Education
Program Overview: The 14 month program starts in June and continues for four semesters and finishes in Summer the next year. The two summers are in-residence, on-campus semesters starting with the week long Intermountain Special Study Institute (ISSI) on Deafness (see www.isu.edu/issi/) and then 5-6 weeks of daily coursework. The two intervening semesters (Fall & Spring) are provided through on-line coursework. Most students are working in a D/HH setting during this time and ISU also provides supervised, student teaching opportunities during these two semesters to more traditional students.

- Recognized as a Western Regional Graduate Program (WRGP) so that students from the 14 western states pay only resident tuition.

About the Profession
ISU has graduated many persons who are currently working as teachers of deaf and hard of hearing children. They work in early childhood agencies, as preschool teachers and elementary-secondary educators. A significant number of our graduates work in administrative positions in school districts, residential schools and state departments of education. Some of our graduates also work as interpreter trainers in colleges and universities.
Potential Salary: $30,000 - $60,000

Other Information: Deaf Education graduate students are readily supported up to $16,500 by the Federal Stafford Loan Program which has a forgiveness provision for working in special education for five years.
