Program Description
Name of program: Master of Counseling
Program Overview: The Department of Counseling offers four options within the Master of Counseling degree: Option 1, Marital, Couple and Family Counseling; Option 2, Mental Health Counseling; Option 3, School Counseling; and Option 4, Student Affairs Counseling. All four options are available on the Pocatello campus. Option 2 is available at ISU-Boise.

Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs
The Department of Counseling was one of the first programs in the nation to be fully accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).
Program Highlights
The Department of Counseling has twice received the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision's Outstanding Program of the Year Award.
About the Profession
1)Marital, Couple, and Family Counseling prepares counselors to specialize in providing couple, marriage, and family counseling in various settings. 2) Mental Health Counseling prepares counselors to provide individual, group, family, couple, and marriage counseling. This major emphasizes wellness, development, and advocacy related to clients and the community. 3)School Counseling prepares counselors with the skills needed to provide counseling, consulting, and comprehensive guidance services in elementary and secondary school settings. 4) Student Affairs Counseling is designed to provide a comprehensive view of college student services and prepares students to work in at least two student affairs positions.

Length of Program
Number of academic years needed to complete the program: In Boise, six semesters of course work as well as some summer courses. Courses generally tend to be held Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in the late afternoon and evening.
The Master of Counseling program offered on the ISU-Pocatello campus is a two-year, full-time program.

Prerequisites
Required Degree: Bachelor's Degree
Other Prerequisites: Applicant's must: 1) Have a bachelor's degree from a college or university in the United States or its equivalent from a school in another country. (Must complete the degree before onset of classes in the Fall semester in year of acceptance.) 2) Meet the guidelines for admission set forth by the ISU Graduate School which is a 3.0 gpa (upper division) and a mininum of a 40th percentile on any one of the three areas of the GRE, or a Miller Analogy raw score of 390 or higher. 3) Submit application and application fee to both the Graduate School and the Department of Counseling. 4) Personal interview with the Department of Counseling Admissions Committee.
