British nuclear decommissioning expert to speak Feb. 20 in Idaho Falls

Idaho State University–Idaho Falls will host a free public seminar “The Challenges Posed by the United Kingdom’s Decommissioning Program” by Bernard Kelly, Ph.D., on Wednesday, Feb. 20, from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m., in Room 314 at the Center for Higher Education Building at University Place.

Kelly, professor of nuclear decommissioning engineering in the Dalton Nuclear Institute at the University of Manchester, is an advisor to the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), Great Britain’s equivalent to the U.S. Department of Energy.

Kelly’s presentation will include definitions of decommissioning, the scope and cost of the British program, and how knowledge management can help current and future generations of decommissioners.

Kelly’s presentation also will be available for viewing at the Eli M. Oboler Library, Room B32, on ISU’s Pocatello campus.
