Trails on the west side of Red Hill, including the Portneuf Greenway trail, will be re-opened to the public on Friday afternoon July 25.
The construction of the rockfall barrier and other measures to remove hazards and stabilize the hill above the trails is now complete. This work has minimized the safety hazards that were present.
“The safety of the public has always been our top concern. This project has successfully addressed a number of safety threats. We appreciate the patience and cooperation of the public during the trail closure and the construction, and are glad we have been able to restore the trails for the public’s enjoyment,” said Phil Moessner, Associate Vice President of Facilities Services.
Some work remains to restore native vegetation to those areas that were disturbed during construction. Restoration will occur in early fall when the weather is better suited to new planting activity. There may be another temporary closure for a short time in the fall during reseeding.
