Winner of Idaho State University Ultimate Bengal Challenge to be announced April 23; 70 finalists eligible for $13,000-plus scholarship package; 179,054 entries

The winner of Idaho State University’s Ultimate Bengal Challenge’s $13,000-plus scholarship package selected from 179,054 entries will be announced Wednesday, April 23, at the Reed Gymnasium donkey basketball game beginning at 6 p.m.
The Ultimate Bengal winner will receive a year of in-state tuition, one year of campus housing, a one-year meal plan, a $1,000 ISU Bookstore Credit, an iPad, a reserved parking pass, a Student Unions bowling and billiards card, and ISU swag, including a jacket and polo shirt.
Nearly 50 of the 70 finalists are expected to be in attendance at the game, The challenge began Jan. 14 and entries were accepted through April 18.
“We can’t wait to announce the winner of this challenge,” said Adrienne King, ISU director of marketing and communications. “We’re also very excited about the boost the challenge has given our social media presence.”
Besides generating nearly 180,000 entries, during the Ultimate Bengal Challenge’s time frame the number of ISU Facebook followers increased from 11,063 to 17,089, an increase of 54.5 percent; Twitter followers increased from 2,658 to 4,031, an increase of 51.7 percent; and Instagram followers increased from 1,215 to 2,167, an increase of 78.4 percent.
“We don’t know of another university that has ever offered an award package like this for interacting with social media,” said Stuart Summers, chair of the ISU Social Media Committee and director of marketing and recruitment for the ISU College of Technology. “The response to the contest has been incredible, and the Ultimate Bengal Challenge has attracted the attention of other universities from around the country.”
Besides the Ultimate Bengal Challenge award package, there were also weekly and monthly prizes awarded such as an iPad, ISU parking passes and gift certificates. Each week, five entries were selected randomly as potential winners of the Challenge’s weekly and monthly prizes. Those names, 70 total, were entered into the final random drawing for the Ultimate Bengal Challenge award package. The winner of the challenge can keep the award package or give it away.
The donkey basketball game is sponsored by the ISU Student Activity Board and is free to ISU students, $2 for ISU faculty and staff and $3 for the public.
