Ed Soph Trio to headline Idaho State University Jazz Fest on Feb. 4

The extraordinary jazz drummer Ed Soph and his trio – including Stefan Karlsson on piano and Fred Hamilton on bass – will headline the 25th annual Idaho State University Jazz Fest on Feb. 4.  

They will perform with the ISU Jazz I Big Band at 7:30 p.m. in the ISU Stephens Performing Arts Center's Jensen Grand Concert Hall.

Ed SophThe trio members are all faculty at the prestigious Jazz Studies Division at the College of Music at the University of North Texas.

Between them they have performed with jazz greats such as Stan Kenton, Woody Herman, Clark Terry, Randy Brecker, Carl Fontana, Bill Evans, James Moody, John Abercrombie and Cedar Walton

Soph, Karlsson and Hamilton will work with regional high school jazz bands throughout the day, including groups from Pocatello, Highland, Century and Blackfoot high schools.

They will also be giving a clinic on jazz improvisation at 1 p.m. All Jazz Fest events will be held in the Jensen Grand Concert Hall.

The cost for the concert is $8 for adults, $6 for ISU faculty and staff, $4 pre-college students and free to ISU students. The Jazz Fest daytime events are free and open to the public.
