U.S. News and World Report has ranked the Idaho State University counseling program tied as the 13th best program of its kind in the country in the magazine's ratings that came out earlier this month.
The Idaho State University counseling program received the ranking under the category of Best Education Schools Specialty Rankings: Student Counseling and Personnel Services.
"Our goal has been to become nationally recognized and this certainly helps our visibility," said Stephen Feit, interim dean of the Kasiska College of Health Professions and former chair of the ISU Department of Counseling.
ISU was tied at 13th with Bowling Green State University in Ohio and Michigan State University. The top-ranked school was the University of Maryland–College Park. Idaho State University was one of the few universities in the top 25 located west of the Mississippi River, along with the University of Iowa (10th), Arizona State University-Fulton (16th) and the University of Oregon (tied for 22nd).
The ISU Department of Counseling offers accredited master's degrees in marital, couple and family counseling; mental health counseling; school counseling; and student affairs counseling.
In addition, it offers a specialist degree in counseling and an accredited doctorate in counselor education and counseling.
The mental health counseling major leading to master’s counseling degree and the Ph.D. in counselor education and counseling are also offered at the ISU-Meridian Health Science Center.
