Former Idaho State University Provost, South Dakota School of Mines President Robert Wharton to be honored in tribute service Sept. 24
The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology has announced that its President Robert A. Wharton died unexpectedly on Sept. 19 and an outdoor memorial tribute service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 24, on the School of Mines' quad.
Wharton, 60, served as the provost and vice president of academic affairs at Idaho State University from 2005 to 2008, and a year prior to that served as ISU's chief research officer. Wharton had served as School of Mines President since 2008. (more…)
Idaho State University NSF-funded program attempts to blend western science/Native American culture to produce geoscientists
Three students from the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes are the first to enroll in an Idaho State University geosciences program that is designed to blend western science and Native American knowledge to produce more effective professionals for Indian Country.
ISU has received a $199,987, three-year grant from the National Science Foundation titled "Opportunities for Enhancing Diversity in the Geosciences" that, if successful, could lead to a much larger grant, possibly $1 million or more, from the NSF.
The scope of the grant is large and is not adequately reflected in its title, according to the grant’s principal participants. (more…)
The Idaho State University College of Technology's Cosmetology program will celebrate its 75th anniversary on Friday, Sept. 21. The celebration will include an open house and tour of their facilities and a special program to recognize their more than 2,000 alumni. (more…)
The 2012 annual "I Love ISU" campaign concluded Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, raising $364,163 in pledges for scholarships for Southeast Idaho students.
Led this year by Deb Thompson and Gary Black, 20 team captains and more than 180 volunteers in Pocatello, Idaho Falls, Blackfoot and American Falls worked together to gather pledges through weeks of peer to peer contacts and other activities. (more…)
Idaho State University will present "Violence, the 'Conscience of Mankind,' and Human Rights," a lecture given by Dr. Paul Lauren on Sept. 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the Stephens Performing Arts Center, Rotunda.
Lauren is the first person to be named as a Regents Professor at the University of Montana. He is an internationally recognized teacher and scholar on diplomacy, international relations and human rights. Lauren has published many articles, chapters and 11 books, some of which have been translated into seven different languages including the widely read Force and Statecraft and The Evolution of International Human Rights: Visions Seen, which was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize.
This lecture is free and open to the public, with refreshments following.
For the fourth consecutive year Idaho State University has been named one of the country’s "Military Friendly Schools." The list honors the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans, and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus. POCATELLO — Idaho State University undergraduate and graduate students can enter a contest to create the design for this year's ISU holiday card.
The contest winner will receive a $1,000 cash prize, and the runner up will earn a $500 cash prize. The winning entry will appear on the University holiday card, which is sent to thousands of University family members and supporters.
The deadline for entries is 5 p.m. Oct. 15 and the winning selection will be announced by Oct. 19. Entrants should try to capture the spirit and beauty of the winter holiday season, while thematically incorporating ISU. (more…)
