Idaho State University Idaho Accelerator Center receives $670k for research project from Idaho Global Entrepreneurial Mission

The Idaho State University Idaho Accelerator Center will receive $670,700 for the development of commercially-viable accelerator-produced materials for medical and semiconductor industry applications from the Idaho Global Entrepreneurial Mission (IGEM).

"This grant will help grow high-tech research and economic development in medical isotopes and accelerator-modified materials," said Doug Wells, director of the Idaho Accelerator Center and the grant's principal investigator. (more…)

Free HIV testing set for ISU-Meridian faculty, staff, students

National HIV Testing Day is Wednesday, June 27, and ISU-Meridian will offer free, rapid HIV tests to faculty, staff and students. The message is "Take the Test, Take Control," according to organizers. 

The confidential test is performed orally and doesn’t require a blood draw. Results are available within 20 minutes. Call Judy Thorne, ISU-Meridian's HIV education coordinator at 208-373-1710 to schedule an appointment. (more…)

Idaho State University INBRE undergraduate researchers gain valuable experiences

Thirteen undergraduates are at work at Idaho State University this summer completing scientific research – the kind that has the potential to show up in peer-reviewed journals with the students listed as co-authors – by participating in the IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program.

The INBRE Fellowship program, involving undergraduate science students from universities throughout Idaho, is not an educational or training initiative. In a sense, the INBRE program is a minor league for developing scientists who will be asking important questions and pursuing tangible results, all for the sake of advancing humankind’s quest for knowledge and contributing to our understanding of human diseases and disorders. Idaho State University KISU Radio expands coverage area into Upper Snake River Valley

Following a pattern began years ago, Idaho State University's public radio station KISU-FM continues to expand its coverage area throughout Eastern Idaho.

With the recent addition of a translator in Rexburg broadcasting on 88.1 FM, KISU's radio signal can now be heard from Marsh Valley in southern Bannock County all the way to St. Anthony and north in Fremont County. (more…)

Sixth annual Idaho State University Stephens Foosball Tournament fundraiser set June 24

The Sixth Annual Blake Stephens Foosball Tournament will be June 24 at 1 p.m. at Hooligans.

The event, which raises scholarship money for student veterans attending Idaho State University, honors local Army soldier Sgt. Blake Stephens who was killed in Iraq in 2007 by a roadside bomb. Stephens often played foosball at the local establishment. (more…)

Idaho State University researchers make discovery about potential causes of autism

A team of Idaho State University researchers have discovered that fish show autism-like gene expression after exposure to water containing psychoactive pharmaceuticals, according to research published June 6 in the open access journal PLoS ONE.

The results may suggest an environmental trigger for autism, although this finding may only apply to genetically predisposed individuals. (more…)

Idaho Museum of Natural History to open two new exhibits June 8; Camas Prairie natural, cultural history explored & Crabtree featured

The Idaho Museum of Natural History at Idaho State University will open two new exhibits – "Exploring the Camas Prairie" and "A Don Crabtree Retrospective" – on Friday, June 8.

The public exhibits will be open from 12:30 to 7:30 p.m. on June 8. Regular Museum hours are 12:30 to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and closed Sunday through Tuesday. Admission is free, although contributions are welcome. (more…)

Idaho Summer Repertory at ISU presents ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’ June 15, 16, 18, 21, 22, 23

The Idaho Summer Repertory at Idaho State University will present "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" at 7:30 p.m. June 15, 16, 18, 21, 22 and 23 at the Beverly B. Bistline Theatre in the Stephens Performing Arts Center.

"Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" is an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical with lyrics by Tim Rice. The story is based on the "coat of many colors" story of Joseph from the Bible's Book of Genesis. The musical was first produced in London's West End in 1973 and opened on Broadway in New York City in 1982. (more…)
