ISU GIS Center to celebrate GIS Day Nov. 18 at Rendezvous Complex

The Idaho State University GIS Center and campus community will celebrate World GIS Day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, at the Rendezvous Complex on the ISU Pocatello Campus.

There will be presentations, hands-on Geographic Information System (GIS) stations, food, a trivia contest and a host of raffle items.

An open house of GIS demonstrations and exhibits will run from 9:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Rendezvous Complex Suite B. (more…)

• ISU Music Department Student Chamber Music Night: This free concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Goranson Hall located in the lower level of the ISU Fine Arts Building. For more information, call the ISU Department of Music at 282-3636.

Idaho State University physics professor Shropshire elected to national board

Steve Shropshire, a physics professor at Idaho State University, has been elected to serve on the Executive Board of the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) as the representative of all four-year colleges and universities in the United States. (more…)

ISU Marketing Association to present ‘Pokapalooza Warped’ battle of the bands on Nov. 21

The Idaho State University Marketing Association is working full force to put the final touches on Pokapalooza Warped, a battle of the bands featuring local music groups.  The event is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 21, in the Pond Student Union Ballroom.  Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with music starting at 7 p.m.  (more…)

Idaho State University Jazz Bands concert set Nov. 20

The Idaho State University Jazz Band I and Jazz Band II will be presenting an exciting mix of cool and hot jazz in their first performance of the year on Friday, Nov. 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Joseph C. and Cheryl H. ISU Outdoor Adventure Center to present workshop Nov. 19 on using yurts; yurt rentals begin Nov. 20

The Idaho State University Outdoor Adventure Center will hold an "Introduction to the Portneuf Yurt System" workshop covering all aspects of the yurt system at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, in the Pond Student Union Snake River Room.

Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico band together to battle effects of climate change; BSU, ISU, UI will participate in EPSCoR grant

MOSCOW, Idaho – Today’s issues related to climate change and water resources require an abundant flow of information between scientists across the country. Because of this fact, the National Science Foundation not only is providing bigger pipes for three states, it also is making sure they fit together.

The NSF’s Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) recently announced a three-year grant worth $6 million to be shared by the states of Nevada, New Mexico and Idaho. The grant will help these states address regional issues related to climate change and water resource management in three ways. (more…)

2009 National Outdoor Book Award Winners Announced

A new groundbreaking biography on Theodore Roosevelt is the winner of the history-biography category in this year's National Outdoor Book Awards (NOBA).

Titled "Wilderness Warrior," the book is by historian Douglas Brinkley. 

"No doubt about this one," said Ron Watters, Chairman of the National Outdoor Books Awards and professor emeritus at Idaho State University. "It's a winner.  Not only is Brinkley's book well written and impeccably researched, it sheds new information on Roosevelt's work to protect our nation's outdoor heritage." (more…)

NWCCU gives ISU positive feedback during reaccreditation evaluation

Idaho State University has received positive feedback from an evaluation committee from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) after a visit by two reviewers to the Pocatello campus on Nov. 5 and 6.

The reviewers conducted the standard five-year interim evaluation of the institution and reported they will forward to the NWCCU three commendations and only one recommendation. The University is required by the NWCCU to submit a Regular Interim Report five years after the ten-year reaccreditation evaluation, which ISU completed in Fall 2004.

The Commission will meet in January 2010 to consider the site reviewers' report and will issue its formal report to President Arthur C. Vailas shortly thereafter. (more…)

Annual Graduate Student Art Exhibt ‘Intersect’ opens Nov. 16, runs through Dec. 11

The last exhibition of 2009 in the Idaho State University John B. Davis Gallery is the Annual Graduate Student Art Exhibition titled "Intersect." 

The opening reception is Monday, Nov.16, from 6 to 8 p.m.  The exhibition dates are from Nov. 17 to Dec. 11. (more…)
