Intermountain Center for Educational Effectiveness creates curriculum, helps Idaho’s K-12 educators

Idaho State University's Intermountain Center for Educational Effectiveness (ICEE) in the College of Education is changing the way teachers teach.

The ICEE in collaboration with eastern Idaho School districts is defining classroom instructional objectives based on Idaho K-12 content standards and conforming to the No Child Left Behind Act.

This is just one of several major grant projects the ICEE is currently working on. (more…)

Joint Intermountain Conference on the Environment, Geotechnical Symposium set Nov. 5-6 at ISU; Century High School teacher Givens to be honored

The joint 14th Intermountain Conference on the Environment and the 42nd Engineering Geology and Geotechnical Engineering Symposium will be held at Idaho State University Nov. 5-6 in the Pond Student Union.

The theme of the conference is “Geotechnics, Environment, Energy, and Economics (GE3) – The Links for Sustainability.”

A highlight of the conference will be honoring Century High School (Pocatello) environmental and science teacher Bruce Givens who will receive the Intermountain Conference on the Environment Individual Achievement Award. (more…)

ISU rodeo teams end season near top of the Rocky Mountain Region

Idaho State University Rodeo Team members completed their fall competition schedule following the Utah State University fall stampede rodeo in early October with the women's team finishing second in the region and the men's team fourth.

The top individual performers for the season were Kyle VanBiezen, first in tie down roping; Cy Eames, first in team roping header; and Kim Sanford, first in barrel racing. (more…)

Thompson retires from College of Technology after 32 years of service

After 32 years of dedicated service to Idaho State University College of Technology, Deb Thompson is retiring. Since 1977, she has served in several positions including; counselor, director of student services, interim associate dean, associate dean, and interim dean.

The College of Technology is hosting a retirement reception to recognize Deb for her years of service on Friday, Oct. 30, from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Roy F. Christensen Building, Culinary Arts Dining Room, 777 Memorial Drive, Pocatello, Idaho. If you wish to attend please call 282-3227 to RSVP. (more…)

Idaho State University massage therapy clinic open

Experience the benefits of massage at the Idaho State University Massage Therapy Clinic. The Massage Therapy program is now accepting appointments.

Students will provide relaxation focused massage each Tuesday and Thursday evening from October through Dec. 3 while classes are in session.

Appointments are available at 5 p.m. or 6:15 p.m. The cost for a one-hour massage is $20.00 and any tips/donations received benefit the ASISU Massage Therapy Club. (more…)

Idaho State University English Professor Alan Johnson awarded Fulbright Scholarship to teach, study in Mumbai, India

Idaho State University Associate Professor of English Alan Johnson has been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to lecture and study at the University of Mumbai in Mumbai, India, during spring semester 2010.

“I am thrilled and excited by my selection, not only for the opportunities it allows for study, but also for the opportunity it offers to be an ambassador for Idaho State University and American higher education,” Johnson said. (more…)

Cyber security leader joins ISU Informatics Research Institute; Garcia is former homeland security official

Gregory T. Garcia, a former assistant secretary for cyber security and communications for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, has joined the distinguished faculty of Idaho State University’s Informatics Research Institute (IRI) as an affiliate research professor of information assurance policy and strategy.

Garcia will be working closely within the institute’s internationally-recognized programs in information assurance and computer security and bring new perspectives from broad experience in industry and government policy. (more…)

ISU continues ‘Be Advised’ campaign to encourage students to get advice

Idaho State University is continuing its “Be Advised” campaign to encourage students to reap the benefits of good advising.

The campaign by the ISU Division of Enrollment Management directs students on how to best pursue the information they need to progress towards attaining their chosen degree program.

“Advising is the cornerstone of a successful experience at Idaho State University,” said JoAnn Hertz, director of ISU academic advising. “Interaction with departmental faculty who are experts in their field provides an advantage to any student who seeks it.” (more…)

Idaho State University/INL researchers receive Idaho Innovation Award for nanoparticle project

Idaho State University researchers René Rodriguez and Joshua Pak, who worked with Idaho National Laboratory researcher Robert Fox, were honored with an Idaho Innovation Awards “Early-Stage Innovation of the Year” for their work with precision nanoparticles.

The winners of the fourth annual Idaho Innovation Awards were announced earlier this month. The state’s only innovation awards program, the Idaho Innovation Awards are presented by Stoel Rives and Kickstand. (more…)
