The staff at Black Rock and Sage, Idaho State University’s student literary journal, will host a contest and several writing events this spring.
On March 1, the staff will host a Write-a-Thon from 1 to 5 p.m in Room 213 of the ISU Rendevous Complex. Hash out a novel, short story, a series of poems or any other creative work. Prizes will be awarded to the writers who generate the most words.
An Open Writing Workshop is scheduled for March 1 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Cyber Café of ISU’s Rendevous Building. A gathering of writers from the community will meet to exchange, read and discuss one another’s writing projects and endeavors. (more…)

Idaho State University President Arthur C. Vailas issued condolences to Northern Illinois University President John G. Peters regarding the Feb. 14 shooting that occurred on the NIU campus.
The letter read:
“It is with the deepest of sorrow that I write to express sympathy for the tragic events which have occurred on your campus. News of such senseless violence leaves us all horrified and bewildered. The entire nation mourns with you.
