Engineering society honors ISU Dean Jacobsen

Richard Jacobsen, PhD, Idaho State University College of Engineering dean, has been honored as the recipient of the Idaho Society of Professional Engineers Excellence in Engineering Educator Award.

The award was presented recently in Boise as part of the Idaho Society of Professional Engineers (ISPE) annual meeting. (more…)

Earth Week activities slated for April 23-27

The Idaho State University Students’ Community Service Center (SCSC) and Student Action Volunteers for the Environment (SAVE) will sponsor Earth Week from April 23 to 27 at ISU.

The event will include a series of free, Earth-centered activities and discussions to celebrate and connect with our planet Earth. Activities will include speakers, activities, concerts, and the traditional campout on the ISU Hutchinson Quadrangle. (more…)

Family Fest set April 14 at ISU PSUB, Quad

Local residents won’t have to travel to Disneyland to see zoo animal mascots this spring. Families may come to “Curious George Comes to ISU” and see Benny the Bengal and Curious George from noon to 3 p.m. April 14 at the Idaho State University Hutchinson Quadrangle and the ISU Pond Student Union Building. ISU exhibits Hollywood designer’s sketches online

Pocatello native Edward Stevenson made sure that Lucille Ball didn’t wear potato sacks every day in her television show “I Love Lucy.” Stevenson worked as a Hollywood costume designer beginning in the 1930s, including being an employee for DesiLu Productions until his death 1968. Now his sketches can be viewed online thanks to ISU Eli M. Oboler Library and the impetus of Connie Smith Bowen, wife of former ISU President Richard Bowen. (more…)

Rural HIV prevention, Internet are topics of colloquium April 13

“Rural HIV Prevention on the Internet: Problem, Successes, and the Future” will be the topic of discussion by Anne Bowen, PhD, at 4 p.m. April 13 in the Plant Science (Building 69) Auditorium on the USU campus.
Bowen is a professor of psychology at the University of Wyoming. Her colloquium on HIV prevention will be open to the public. It is sponsored by the USU Department of Psychology. Bowen earned her psychology master’s degree at USU.

Bold new ISU license plate makes its debut

A bold new ISU Bengals logo appears on the redesigned Idaho motor-vehicle collegiate license plate for the university.The new ISU license plate.

An ISU text logo replaces the familiar Bengal tiger’s face, which was indistinct from a distance. The plate provides alumni, employees and ISU supporters alike the opportunity to broadcast their pride in and support of Idaho State University.

Income from the collegiate plates also will help ISU fund scholarship aid for ISU students. (more…)

For second year, an ISU student wins Idaho Lottery scratch ticket design contest

For the second consecutive year, Idaho State University has the top winner in the Idaho Lottery’s Collegiate Scratch Ticket Design contest.  This year’s winner Jeff Wolfley, a senior in the Mass Communications program, wanted to create a scratch ticket that blended something famous from Idaho with something else very popular – poker. ISU Women’s Club slates Schubert Scholarship lunch April 14

The Idaho State University Women’s Club will hold its annual Jayne Schubert Scholarship Luncheon in the Pond Student Union Building Little Wood River Room at noon on Saturday, April 14.

The theme this year is “It’s a Real Zoo Out There.” The program will include a special presentation by Scott Ransom, director of the Pocatello Zoo. This year’s scholarship recipients will also be introduced. Bridge will follow the luncheon for those who are interested. (more…)
