28th annual ISU Jazz Fest to feature public concerts Feb. 6-7

The 28th annual Idaho State University Jazz Festival will present public concerts on Feb. 6 and 7 featuring Grammy award-winning jazz tenor saxophonist Bob Mintzer and keyboardist Russell Ferrante.

A special performance by a quartet comprised of Mintzer, Ferrante and local musicians Aaron Miller and Shane Lindsay will be held on Friday, Feb. 6, from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. at Portneuf Valley Brewing. Cover for this limited seating special event will be $10 and seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors open at 7 p.m. (more…)

Southeast Idaho residents and guests will again be able to enjoy the food and culture of the African continent at Idaho State University Africa Night 2015 on Jan. 24 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Stephens Performing Arts Center.

Idaho State University New Year’s Eve Gala raises funds for student scholarships

Organizers for the Idaho State University College of Arts and Letters Annual New Year’s Eve Gala hope to raise more than $30,000 for scholarships and create an endowment for student scholarships.

“We want to raise a greater amount of scholarship funds than we did last year so we will be able to again give directly to students to allow them to complete their education and launch their careers,” said Heidi Jarvis, Director of Advancement, College of Arts and Letters, and Strategic University Initiatives.

The second annual New Year’s Eve Gala will be held on Dec. 31 at 7 p.m. at the L.E. and Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts Center. The theme for this year’s gala is “Masquerade Ball.” Scholarships are made possible from donors in the community, as well as ticket sales. (more…)

Young musicians featured at Idaho State Civic Symphony concert on Nov. 14

The Idaho State Civic Symphony will feature the winners of the Symphony Association 2014 Young Artists Competition on Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the Stephens Performing Arts Center.

Idaho State University-Meridian’s Samantha Lange displays talents on national stage and in classroom

Samantha Lange, 24, had a good reason to miss her department’s new student orientation at Idaho State University-Meridian in late August.

The first-year physician assistant studies student was in New York City, competing for $1 million and a Las Vegas show on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.” (more…)
