Application Procedures
A formal application for admission in either a major or a minor is required of all students. Students interested in a health education major or minor should review and complete the respective major or minor application criteria. For assistance with your program application, please call 282-2729 or visit the Health Education program office in Reed Gym #242 to schedule a meeting with a faculty member/advisor.
Application Form for Undergraduate Health Education Program
Application Criteria
MAJORS ONLY
Current Idaho State University students who have met the prerequisites listed on the application form may apply for program admission during the first semester of their sophomore year. The following criteria must be met for an applicant to be eligible for consideration for admission to the MAJOR in health education:
- A minimum of a 2.75 cumulative GPA at the time of application.
- Completion of or concurrent enrollment in the following courses with a “C-” grade or better:
- ENGL 1102 - Critical Reading and Writing
- COMM 1101 - Principles of Speech
- MATH 1153 – Introduction to Statistics
- BIOL 1101, 1101L - Biology I, and Lab
- CIS 1101 - Introduction to Computer Systems
- NTD 1139 - Consumer Nutrition OR NTD 2239 - Nutrition
- H E 2200 - Promoting Wellness
- H E 2221 - Introduction to Health Education
- A 150-word statement of your philosophy concerning health education
- A statement describing an occupational goal that includes the use of health education.
- The student must present a current first aid and CPR card to her/his advisor.

MINORS ONLY
The following criteria must be met for an applicant to be eligible for consideration for admission to the MINOR in health education:
Teaching Minor
- Admission to the College of Education Teacher Education Program
- Completion of Health Education Application Form
Non-Teaching Minor
- A minimum of a 2.75 cumulative GPA at the time of application.
- Completion of Health Education Application Form
- Completion of the following courses with a C- or better
- HE 2200 – Promoting Wellness
- HE 2221 – Introduction to Health Education

TRANSFER STUDENTS ONLY
- Students transferring in with an associate’s degree may make immediate application for admission.
- Transfer students must have their transcripts evaluated for transfer credits by the Office of Admissions prior to application for program admission.
- Transfer students who have satisfied the Idaho State University general education requirements, have at least a 2.75 GPA, and have completed the equivalent of the courses listed above will be considered for admission
