The meeting of the Faculty Professional Polices Council was convened at 3:30 p.m. in Room #316 of the Business Administration Building.

Approval of Minutes: Minutes of the May 1, 1998 meeting were approved.

Wording of Handbook re: Emeritus Status: After a lengthy discussion of this issue with regard to wording and establishing criteria, it was agreed that David Beard would rewrite the paragraph that the council found to be unclear. The council readdressed questions of rank and privileges, and discussed whether of not clinical faculty could be awarded Emeritus status. It was decided that the council would address wording of the handbook with the purpose of clarifying guidelines for Faculty Senate.

Discussion of Student Evaluations for Faculty Assessment: The committee agreed that we want to follow up on this issue to make a recommendation to Faculty Senate.

Discussion of Dating Policy for Faculty and Students: Linda Hatzenbuehler and Sharon Sieber agreed to serve on a subcommittee to discuss formulating a policy to recommend to Faculty Senate. The Council clarified that they believe such a policy should be in the handbook and addresses only the issue of dating students currently enrolled in classes as a potential conflict of interest.

Replacement: The Council agreed to request from Faculty Senate to confirm Gerald Nunn’s replacement of Dick Sagness. Sharon Sieber agreed to write a short note to Faculty Senate Chair, Kathleen Kangas.

Secretarial Support: Sharon Sieber agreed to write a letter requesting of Dr. Jonathan Lawson that a secretary be provided for the PPC, noting that all other councils have their own secretaries.

The meeting adjourned at 5:35 p.m.

Respectfully submitted by Sharon Sieber on March 24, 1999.
