FPPC Meeting Minutes October 18, 2000

Present: Beard(Chair), Bhushan, Campbell, Egger, Hatzenbuehler, Hitchcock,

Jacobson, Laquer, McWhirter, Pumphrey, Ronald, Watson

Absent: Miller

I. Minutes of October 4, 2000 were approved 8-0-0 with corrections. Will forward to

Faculty Senate for approval.

II. Reports

A. Beard discussed the agenda for Dr. Lees' visit on November 6 at 2:00 pm in the

Portneuf Room of the Student Union Building. Dr. Doug Lees is coming from

Indiana University Purdue University, Indianapolis where he is the Chair of the

Biology Department. Dr. Lees is sponsored by the AAHE mini-grant for post-tenure

review and will be speaking to the FPPC about issues of remediation and rewards

and answering the council's questions on the post-tenure review policy.

B. Beard will develop issues council would like to discuss before the meeting on

November 6, 2000.

C. Beard discussed meeting dates with the council and it was decided that FPPC will

still meet on November 1 at 3:00 pm, November 6 at 2:00 pm and November 15 at

3:00 pm.

III. Business

A. Beard developed a proposal using Egger's suggestions for the new Periodic

Professional Review policy. Council members for the remainder of the meeting went

through the proposal word by word. The council discussed better usage of words and

sentences. The council did not all consent on changes that may be made to the proposal.

A decision was made that the proposal needed additional work.

B. Goal for next meeting is to have Tyler Watson, the Graduate Research Assistant, rewrite

the proposal using the changes council discussed. Watson will bring the proposal to the

next meeting for the council to review and discuss.
