FPPC Meeting Minutes September 20, 2000

Present: Beard(Chair), Bhushan, Campbell, Laquer, Lawson, Egger(Designee for

Lawson), Miller, Ronald, Sato

Absent: Hatzenbuehler(ntc), Hitchcock(ntc), Jacobson(ntc), Pumphrey

I. Minutes of September 6, 2000 were approved 7-0-0. Will forward to Faculty

Senate for approval.

II. Reports

A. Ronald introduced a policy he wrote implementing Northwest requirements

B. Beard introduced a page of suggestions for the policy.

III. Business

A. Periodic Professional Review (PPR)

1. The council discussed changes that could be made to the annual review that

would be 'substantive' and have 'peer' participation. If the annual covered all

of NASC requirements there would not be a need to implement a three-year

policy. Does the council want to make an extreme or minimal change to the

policy? Council decided to focus on a policy consisting of goals rather than a

detailed procedure.

2. The council reviewed the Faculty/Staff Handbook and the SBOE policy to see

what the current policy stated, and noted that the current annual policy was very

close to SBOE wording.

B. Goals set for the next meeting:

1. Every council member that attended the meeting will bring to the next meeting a

draft policy for the annual review that the individual thinks will stand up to NASC

requirements.
