II.
Reports
A.
No reports given at the first meeting.
III.
Business
A. Brief introduction of new council members
and Chair David Beard.
B. The FPPC agreed to meet the first and third Wednesdays at 3 pm. The next
meeting
date will be September 6, 2000.
C. The remainder of the meeting focused on a
direction to go in changing the
existing
SBOE-mandated Post Tenure Review (PTR).
1.
Hatzenbuehler mentioned that current PTR policy was not up to
affect standard per
report by Ann Oakes; too many changes to PTR policy
could affect
faculty negatively. How do we change
the PTR policy to
Northwest
Association of School and Colleges (NASC) standards while
having a positive,
not negative effect on Faculty?
2. Laquer
brought to attention that many senior faculty were told to focus on
teaching and not research. How would the modified PTR affect this?
3. FPPC
would like to reach a consensus on how PTR policy could change such
that more faculty are noticed for hard work while still following the
standards
that NASC requires for accreditation.
4. Suggestion
was made to initially work on a minimalist approach to comply
with Northwest as a modification
of the current state-mandated annual
review.
5. Development of initial wording for these issues was assigned to the
following
members:
a. David Beard, Chair will write on 'substantive'.
b. Grace Jacobson will write on "peer".
c. H. Turner Laquer will gather information on ISU current policy on
PTR.
