Faculty Professional Policies Council Minutes

January 26, 2006, 11:00 a.m.

Present: Anderson, Dundas, Egger, Jacobson, Murdock, Rhodes (Chair)

Absent: Dunzik-Gouger, Hasenpflug, Hatzenbuehler (all excused), and Shaw

 

I.  Business:

                                                                                  

1.      Revisit Distinguished Professor draft policy -

Faculty Senate referred the draft policy back to the council stating that the award should be rare and questioned the amount of service at ISU.

ACTION:  Moved by Egger and seconded by Dundas to clarify the draft policy and forward it to Faculty Senate.  Passed unanimously. 

 

II.  New Business: 

 

1.      Tenure and Promotion draft policy for Research Faculty -

 Faculty Senate forwarded a draft policy written by Dr. Larry Ford from the Research Coordinating Council.  It was the view of the senate that this issue belongs in the Faculty Professional Policies Council purview. 

Discussion:  Egger recalls the F/S Handbook does not recognize research faculty as eligible to receive tenure.  The secretary will forward the portion of the handbook to the council members as well as the Faculty Senate minutes of November 14, 2005 detailing the draft policy as presented to the senate.

ACTION:  Moved by Dundas and seconded by Jacobsen to invite Dr. Ford to the next meeting regarding the need for the policy.  Passed unanimously. 

 

III.  Unfinished Business:

ACTION:  Moved by Anderson and seconded by Dundas to set the meeting time of the Faculty Professional Policies Council permanently as the fourth Thursday of the month at 11:00 a.m.  Passed unanimously.
