I. Minutes of October 10, 2002.
Action: Moved by Smith and seconded by Egger to approve the minutes of October 10, 2002. Passed unanimously.
a. Continued discussion of F/S Handbook changes –
Dr. Adamcik and Brad Hall were invited to the meeting for further discussion and clarification of how F/S Handbook changes are made and how the faculty is informed of those changes. Hall explained that most of the changes over the summer were due to SBOE policy changes. The F/S Handbook had to comply to reflect those policies of the SBOE.
Hall explained the process in making changes to the F/S Handbook. The CEC, Faculty Senate, Administration or COPE can make suggestions to the President to make changes in the F/S Handbook. If the President accepts the changes, they go to the F/S Handbook committee to be written up and implemented. He explained that the changes can be found on the F/S Handbook webpage. The F/S Handbook committee will be posting legislative format on the general council website around the first of the year if not sooner.
Laquer and Smith suggested that FPPC should be a part of the process of changes that affect faculty. Hall suggested a member of the committee act in a duel role and attend the meetings of the F/S Handbook committee. Hall stated that it would be of benefit to the council as well as faculty to be present at the meetings to be a part of the discussion. Some changes may be seen as a proposal and can be changed before they become policy.
Action: Moved by Egger and seconded by Leung to appoint the Chair of Faculty Professional Policies Council to the F/S Handbook committee to report back any changes affecting faculty. Passed unanimously.
b. Amend Bylaws –
Action: Moved by Egger and seconded by Smith to amend the bylaws, Chapter 2,A,7. “Applied Technology faculty representative” be changed to “Technology faculty representative”. Passed unanimously.
c. Continued discussion on Promotion and Tenure committee composition -
There was some discussion on the different colleges and how their promotion and tenure committees are composed. Hatzenbuehler will report back information from Deans’ Council on how the colleges’ committees are set up.
d. The Council will convene again after the first of the year. Members were
asked to e-mail Bhushan with their schedules during the first part of January so meeting times can be set up. There is a conflict of meetings in the Faculty Senate meeting room on Thursday afternoons.
Respectfully submitted,
Connie Patchin, Secretary
