Present: Beard(Chair), Bhushan, Burch, Hatzenbuchler, Hitchcock, Jacobson, Keeter, Laquer, Leung, Miller, Burch

Absent: Pumphrey (excused)

I. Minutes of 07Nov01

Action: Moved by Dr. Bhushan and seconded by Dr. Leung to approve the

minutes of the 07Nov01 meeting with corrections. Motion carried.

II. Business

a. Council continued to discuses a draft motion by Jacobson to extend sabbatical-type leave to non-tenure-track faculty. There continued to remain a number of questions including “which non-tenure-track faculty are permanent”: What is the purpose of this leave, for the growth of the university or the benefit of the individual? What will it cost and where will the funds be found? Should tenured and non-tenured leave be mandatory?

b. Council discussed a draft motion by Dr. Keeter to modify the “clock” rules for sabbatical leave, but decided to delay a vote until a vote occurred on the Jacobson motion.
