COUNCIL FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING

Minutes

 

Date:   April 2, 2004

Time: 10:00 am

Place:  Biological Sciences Seminar Room, Gale Life Sciences Building

Present: Adkison, Devaud, Bunde, Kunicki, McGinnis, Smith, Packer, Squires, Nuhfer, Reynolds, and Dean

Absent: Reis, Jones, Watson, and Wabrek

           

1. It was established that a quorum was present  -

            Minutes of March 2, 2004  –

Action:  Moved by Devaud and seconded by Adkison to approve the minutes of March 2, 2004 with corrections. Passed unanimously.

 

2. Update of goal assessments -

Adkison stated that Goal course assessments are being developed by participating Departments. In addition, the outcomes for each goal course will now be added to the catalog. Each department will provide an outcome report to Dean Pratt by May 28, 2004. The council should touch base with Dean Pratt next fall to see how the assessments are going.

 

3. Classroom drawings –

Dean brought in a draft of the LA 328 room that can be arranged in lecture, group, or seminar style.  The tables will be able to be moved to either configuration in under ten minutes.  This will be an “ideal” classroom with technology used for a standard for other classrooms at ISU.  Architectural plans for LC 10 are forthcoming.

 

4.      Report to Dr. Lawson –

Smith drafted a report to Dr. Lawson for the council to read.  This will be finalized at the next meeting and sent to him with the full comprehensive plan and the architectural drawings. 

 

5.      Statement to Faculty Senate/Dr. Lawson for strategy and comprehensive plan –

The statement is being worked on by Adkison, McGinnis and Dean.  They provided a brief outline of the topics to be included in the plan.

 

6.      There was a brief discussion on possible speakers that the Center for Teaching and Learning could invite for the 2004-2005 academic year.

 

7.      The next meeting is tentatively set for April 23, 2004 at 10:00.
