2.  Discussion of Council work  (for benefit of new Council members):

Last summer, Adkison finalized a report in which each department submitted Outcomes to their General Education Goal courses.  An ad-hoc committee of the Council is working with Adkison to develop workshops for faculty on methods useful to measure the outcomes.

3.  Ideal Classroom project -

The council discussed the need to standardize the type of instructional technology available in classrooms at ISU so that faculty would find identical and uniform technical units across campus.  This would be more user friendly for the instructors which would in turn increase usage.  Recent meetings/discussions suggest that faculty-supplied computers that link quickly to units at "smart to the front" classrooms might be the best design.  It was suggested to prepare a statement to suggest to Faculty Senate a committee to centralize the acquisition, training, & maintenance of Instructional Technology on campus.

The council members proceeded to visit three classrooms, subjecting them to a "triage" approach.  One was clearly not worth saving, one had potential worthy of intervention, and one was fine as it was.  Council members were asked to submit their lists of “good” and “poor” classroom spaces to Carolyn Bunde before the next meeting.  She can list them on the WebCT site developed for the Council and council members can then visit the classrooms themselves, as their schedules allow.  A discussion of spaces and the learning environments faculty plan to foster will take place at the next meeting.

David Squires suggests meeting in a "good" classroom in the Education building (Room 360) for the next meeting (November 14th, noon).  The Council members agree.

4.  Adjourned at 1:00 - Respectfully submitted, Connie Patchin, Secretary
