A. Role and Mission Statement for Idaho State University
Idaho State University functions to provide both general education and specialized programs in the arts, humanities, sciences, the professions, and technologies. The University engages in research consistent with its state and regional public service mission and its undergraduate and graduate programs. Through its programs in pharmacy and health-related professions, the University is the center for Idaho education in the health professions. Its programs in education, business, and engineering respond to a variety of current and emerging demands within the state and region. It serves as a national center for the Doctor of Arts degree programs. The University also has responsibility for Idaho’s dental education program. Its programs in vocational-technical education support economic development.
The University offers certificates, diplomas, and associate, baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral degrees.
Constituencies served are both local and statewide. They include students seeking traditional, nontraditional and continuing education. In addition, the University serves business, the professions and public sector groups throughout the state as well as special constituencies in the health professions and applied sciences.
The University’s community college educational services consist of extensive certificate and associate degree programs and the Adult Basic Education and prevocational programs through its College of Technology.
5. Continuing Education Responsibilities
The University has a statewide responsibility for enhancing student access to specifically approved pro grams and courses beyond the main campus and beyond the regular school day and academic calendar.
Consistent with its mission statement, the Board directed the University to formulate its academic plan and generate programs by putting primary emphasis on health-related professions and the related biological and physical sciences; giving continuing emphasis in the areas of business, education and engineering; and maintaining basic strengths in the liberal arts and sciences which provide the core curriculum or general education portion of the curriculum.
The University is to enhance its role as a regional center for technology based upon emerging needs.
Each college and university, including Idaho State University, has established priorities in the areas of research and public service which are consistent with that institution’s instructions. In order to increase student access and to provide efficient use of resources, the institutions work cooperatively in hosting programs which are in high demand but for which institutional resources are inappropriate or inadequate
