Application Deadline: December 1, 2016
Interview Schedule: Every week from October 17, 2016 – January 9, 2017

First-year residency applicants must submit their applications through the Electronic Registration Applications Service (ERAS). Second-year openings are filled by direct application to the program.

Please review our Residency page for more information.

Application forms for the 2016 - 2017 year will be available on January 6, 2017.

The residency offers sub-internships and clinical electives in family medicine for third- and fourth-year medical students. Rotations last four weeks. Applicants must have completed their third-year family medicine clerkships prior to beginning their rotations at Idaho State University. Third-year Clinical Outpatient Elective rotations are limited to student applicants from the University of Washington and University of Utah only.

A variety of benefits are available during your rotation including the arrangement of on-campus housing (upon request), a $50 hospital cafeteria meal card, Internet access, and reimbursement for a 30-day parking pass at Idaho State University.

Rotation slots are typically reserved for current medical students who are licensable in the State of Idaho, who have a strong interest in family medicine, who possess ties to the Southeast Idaho area, and who desire to interview for a spot in residency. Students should complete the on-line application to be considered.

Please review our Clerkship page for more information.

Undergraduate Students

The residency and affiliated hospital clinics do not allow job shadowing for many reasons, primarily because of patient privacy and health issues. Students wishing to shadow in these areas should contact Portneuf Medical Center's Director of Volunteer Services at (208) 239-1155 so that an educational forum can be arranged.

Undergraduate college students are allowed to fulfill volunteer hours at Portneuf Medical Center and its affiliated clinics. These students must go through Volunteer Services and complete an application, health-screening form, background check, HIPAA Training, and must come from a university that has a current affiliation agreement with Portneuf Medical Center to cover the screening and liability insurance requirements. Please contact (208) 239-1155 for additional information. You must also have your college advisor contact the residency program to ascertain whether or not we are able to accommodate your scheduling request.
