ISU Encourages Use of IRS Data Retrieval
The IRS Data Retrieval Tool allows applicants (and parents)
to access their IRS tax information and have it automatically
inserted into the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Retrieval of 2012 tax information available for 2013/2014 FAFSA. Check availability
requirements.

Only eligible applicants will be able to
retrieve IRS data. If you are one who qualifies, using this tool can:
- Ensures accurate tax information
- Is the easiest way to provide tax information
- You will not have to provide IRS TAX TRANSCRIPTS to our school - We can not accept a tax return.

How long after I file my federal tax form is the Data Retrieval Tool Available?
- 2 weeks AFTER filing your federal tax return electronically
- 8 weeks AFTER filing a paper federal tax return
How Do I Access the IRS Data Retrieval System?

- http://www.fafsa.gov
- Choose appropriate year
- Enter Income Tax Form filed
- Mark current status of federal tax return
- Click on "View option to link to IRS"
- Use the address you listed when you filed your tax return.
If you are unable to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to provide tax information on the FAFSA,
you may be required to provide the Financial Aid Office with an official Tax Return Transcript from the
IRS Office (275 South 5th, Pocatello, Idaho), or Order a Tax Transcript from the IRS.

Hint: To Order a Tax Transcript from the IRS
- Use #3. "Go get your Transcript"
- You will be given the option to choose which "type" of transcript
- Request the "Return" and the IRS will mail you a Return Transcript
- Submit a copy to the Financial Aid Office
- Amended? - If you have Amended your Tax Returns
- Choose "Account" and the IRS will mail you an Account Transcript
- Submit WITH a copy of your amended tax return to the Financial Aid Office.
- Extension? - If you have filed for an Extension of your taxes
- Please submit the tax return transcript for your prior year's return
- Include a copy of the IRS extension form to the Financial Aid Office.
Note: A current year tax transcript will be required prior to the second disbursement of aid.
- Request the "Return" and the IRS will mail you a Return Transcript
You can return to the FAFSA and "Make Corrections" using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool

- Navigate to Income Section
- Mark current status of federal tax return
- Follow instruction to determine eligibility for IRS tool
- Choose to have IRS Data copied into your FAFSA
- Sign and resubmit the FAFSA
