Idaho State University has engaged in a wide assortment of energy and environmental conservation programs on the Pocatello campus and elsewhere, saving large amounts of energy, water and taxpayer’s money.
Brief Overview
Here is a brief overview of the ISU conservation program's accomplishments from the past several years:
- ISU saves more than 3,260,000-kilowatt hours of electricity per year through conservation efforts
- Has greatly reduced its air particle emissions on its main campus
- Saves 27,228,375 gallons of water annually
- Has realized annual utility cost savings of more than $540,000 since fiscal year 2007
- Custodial Services has recycled 82.7 tons of paper, cardboard, and plastics in 2011
- Maintenance & Operations recycled over 20 tons of scrap metal in 2011
- The Grounds Department recycled over 10,800 cubic feet of plant material in 2011
- Energy-saving projects in 2011 saved 202,079 KWH yearly
- Commuter Bus engine upgrades save 150 gallons of fuel per month
- Bio-diesel fuel made from used cooking oil obtained through Chartwells is used to fuel mowers and equipment
