Portal Team Goes into Action
Implementation of the new Portal for TIGERi, ISU’s ERP project, is gearing up. More than thirty members from across campus gathered at the Portal kickoff in January for an overview of portal goals and objectives with an emphasis on gathering all services into a one-stop shop.
“The portal will be the primary point-of-entry to access university services,” stated Blake Beck, portal team lead, “The University will enjoy a significant increase in functionality from the new portal versus our past portals once Banner is fully implemented.”
The new portal will be role-based and will provide individualized content. The system will know who you are and will allow customization by individual users. As the primary point of entry to university services and tools, it will be much easier for you to access information specifically designed for you. From the portal, you will be able to register for classes, chat with friends on group pages, read your email, access Moodle courses, or read university news.
Portal team members come from many departments across campus, including Enrollment Management Services, Alumni Relations, Web Communications, Student Affairs, Information Technology Resource Center (ITRC), Controllers Office, Nursing, Information Technology Services (ITS) and the Library.
“The portal will be used by everyone on campus,” states David Alexander, TIGERi project manager. “Campus representation is the key to understanding how YOU-the end user-want the portal to function.”
Currently, decisions are being made about the portal's name, layout, content, and other features and functionality. This process will take three years to complete, although some changes will be visible later this year.
