Just wait...your time will come!
Currently, members of the HR/Payroll, Finance, and Portal teams are busy attending Banner training. They are learning the skills needed to utilize Banner and ensure the HR/Payroll module will be ready for production next January, followed by the Finance module in July 2009. The Portal will be placed into production in the not to distant future. The release date will be determined soon. Behind the scenes, the Technical Support team is also busy attending training sessions to learn the skills needed to support the Banner system.
On average one or two consultants are on campus each week training staff on how the Banner system will operate. “If you aren’t involved in the project at this time, just wait, your time will come,” stated David Alexander, TIGERi, project manager. Additional training for all faculty, staff, and students who will be using the Banner system will be provided as each module is placed into use in various ways—training classes, on-line, with manuals and through the Helpdesk.
Everyone involved with the TIGERi project plays an important role. However, training places an added burden on many staff as they work on the implementation of the Banner system while continuing their regular duties. While many individuals serve on teams, we also need others to keep the offices running by performing critical back-up functions. Their dedication to the university and the project are key elements required for a successful implementation.
Examples of the benefits provided when the TIGERi system is in full operation will include the ability to enter timesheets and pay tuition and fees online, to perform degree audits, and to access to budget information as well as track purchase requisitions electronically. Improved access to online services creates greater efficiency which will help ISU remain competitive as well as attract prospective students.
Training is a critical part of understanding the Banner system and will be completed for all TIGERi modules as the implementation progresses during the next three years.
