Transforming Business Practices
TIGERi will reshape university business practices by gathering services together in an integrated online environment, making it faster, easier, and more efficient to conduct business with the university. Members of the Finance and Human Resources (HR)/Payroll teams gathered in respective consulting sessions to evaluate day-to-day business operations using a technique called Business Process Analysis (BPA). These BPA’s were focused on gathering information to model and analyze the current business processes. Future BPA’s will concentrate on how processes can be changed to work efficiently and effectively within Banner.
Everyone on campus uses established business practices to complete university business and related activities. Have you ever asked yourself what happens when you request a travel advance, register for classes or admit a student to ISU? During a BPA team members should ask, is there a better or more efficient way to complete these processes?
Advances in technology make it possible for ISU to do things and access information in ways that were not feasible in the past. With the TIGERi project, Idaho State University is now poised to take advantage of these technological advances. “TIGERi’s integrated technology gives us the opportunity to evaluate our business processes; updating inefficient or outdated practices to improve services for students, faculty and staff,” stated Karen Sparks, Finance Team Lead.
Streamlining our operations requires everyone to find more efficient ways to operate the university. The Idaho State University ERP project, TIGERi, will improve access to online services, helping ISU remain competitive as well as attract prospective students. BPA analysis is an essential part of ensuring ISU stays at the forefront of excellence and will be completed for all TIGERi modules as the implementation progresses during the next three years.
When the HR/Payroll and Finance modules of the TIGERi system is in full operation, students will be able to enter timesheets and pay tuition and fees online. Faculty and staff will enjoy online access to budget information as well as the option to track requisition requests. TIGERi integrated technology will be bring many added benefits as the implementation progresses.
The table below describes examples of functions within the HR/Payroll and Finance modules. The HR/Payroll module is scheduled for production next January, followed by the Finance module in July 2009.
