This research project on structural seismic risk assessment in the Las Vegas basin is part of a larger project funded by the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science entitled “Earthquakes in Southern Nevada – Uncovering Hazards and Mitigating Risk.”  It will focus on two of the eight objectives contained in the original proposal.  These are: 

Objective 6 – Assessment of current building standards in light of improved understanding of hazards; and
Objective 7 – Performing risk assessment for structures and infrastructure, with emphasis on lifelines and critical structures.
