- Dr. Lori Head was the keynote speaker at the AAPHERD conference in Minneapolis, MN, in Fall 2011.
- In September 2011, Molly Jorgensen participated in Soma Fest in Los Angeles, working with artists Anna Halprin, Simone Forti, Emilie Conrad, and Teri Carter.
- In October 2011, Jorgensen presented Laban Movement Analysis: Observing, Understanding, and Making Meaning of Movement at the IAPHERD conference at ISU.
- Joséphine A. Garibaldi and dance faculty Paul Zmolek have been awarded an artist residency at Arteles Creative Center in Haurkijärvi, Finland during May of 2012 to create performance and video works with Finnish poet Karri Kokko and community members of the region.
- Garibaldi has been awarded a Cultural Affairs Council grant to bring in guest artist Cid Pearlman of Pearlman Performance Projects during Spring semester 2012.
- Paul Zmolek, as an Idaho Commission on the Arts Artist in Residence, was in residence at Challis Elementary School and Mad Dog Gallery of Challis, ID
January 9 -13, 2012.
- Garibaldi has been awarded Special Projects funding from the College of Arts and Letters to produce “From Stage to Screen: the Re-Making of a Dance Work”. In collaboration with Mass Communication professor Thomas Hallaq, Paul Zmolek, students from Theatre/Dance and Mass Communication, they will work to recreate the physical theatre work The Rule of Life specifically for video. This project is an extension of research and creative activity initiated in May/June 2011 in Assisi, Italy which was funded in part by the generous support of Idaho State University and Idaho Commission on the Arts. Inspired by the lives of the Franciscan Order of Friars Minor and the Sisters of the Poor Clare’s of early 13th century, The Rule of Life premiered at the Rogers Black Box Theatre of the Stephens Performing Arts Center in November 2011.
- Garibaldi and Zmolek’s video work Appartengono and Altars were featured in the 2011 International Contemporary Artists exhibition at Gallerie le Logge in Assisi, Italy in October 2011. Curated by Dr. Merlina Merli of Arte Studio Ginestrelle in Italy, the exhibition hosted over 30 artists from around the world.
Pearlman originally choreographed Broken String upon her return from Estonia as Fulbright Scholar. Serving as template for the workshop, Broken String “reflects on what we have left behind and what we carry with us as we travel through our lives.”
Made possible by the generous support of the Cultural Affairs Council of Idaho State University, this workshop seeks to work with diverse persons of varying ages, bodies, physical abilities and life experiences. Through guided movement improvisation, writing, imagery, and conversation, workshop participants will learn to communicate stories through movement while creating a collaborative work for public performance.
