The Sociology Department offers both B.A. and M.A degrees in sociology curriculum, which includes introductory courses to familiarize the student with the multi-dimensions of sociology, as well as the more specific courses in such areas as:
Juvenile Delinquency - which deals with patterns of behavior in youth culture, environment and socialization.
Minorities - courses covering race relations, disadvantaged Americans, and women as well as minority groups in other societies.
Stratification - deals with class structure, class-consciousness, division of labor, power and wealth across America.
Additional areas of study include community health and illness, religion, demography, rural communities, industrial, and environmental sociology. These courses are provocative, challenging, informative and cross all cultural, social, political, and economic boundaries.
Faculty members actively engage in teaching and researching in their respective areas of interest. However, without exception, the top priority is the academic welfare of the student.
The goal of the Department of Sociology is not only to teach the theory and methods of sociology, but also to seek the application and implications of such knowledge to the "real world."
