Professor Richard H. Foster

Teaching and Research Specialties: International Relations, American Foreign Policy

After 21 years, Professor Foster stepped down as the Chair of the Political Science Department at the end of the 2004-5 academic year. In addition to teaching International Relations and American Foreign Policy, he also teaches the Introduction to College Teaching course for candidates in the Doctor of Arts Program of the Political Science Department. He is also interested in the politics of the western United States.

Professor Foster is Director of the International Studies Program, which forms an undergraduate major separate from those offered by the Political Science Department. He is the advisor of the student-run International Affairs Council, that sponsors and conducts the Frank Church Symposium, held each February at ISU.

His research interests include historical and modern issues of American foreign policy. He also maintains both a professional and personal interest in the explorations of Lewis and Clark and their Corps of Discovery.
